ASIO
The Australian Security Intelligence Organisation (ASIO) is a domestic intelligence organisation of Australia. It was established in 1949 as Australia’s national security service. The role and responsibility of ASIO is to protect and safeguard Australia, it’s people and interests from terrorism, espionage, sabotage, any politically-motivated violence and attacks on any Australian Defence Systems.
ASIO officers are not armed. ASIO head office is in Canberra with it’s branch offices in other state and territory capital city. ASIO is the only Australian intelligence agency which both collects and assesses security intelligence. ASIO falls under Attorney-General’s Department and reports to Parliamentary Joint Committee on Intelligence and Security. The head of ASIO is the Director-General of Security.
